Tourists are thrilled with this train. "Every introvert's dream"

Could the world's best urban trains be found in Kuala Lumpur? The KL Monorail—the only operational monorail system in Malaysia—recently captured the hearts of internet users thanks to a short video posted on Instagram showing passengers traveling on a modern train. Users were delighted, particularly with the unique seating arrangement, which they unanimously said they'd love to see on European trains.

Malaysian trains are every introvert's dream

In Kuala Lumpur, travelers can enjoy an extensive public transport system, including three types of trains—the MRT, the LRT, and the Monorail. It was the latter that recently captivated thousands of internet users tired of traveling in crowds. The KL Monorail carriages were designed so that passengers looked out of the window, not at the passengers sitting opposite them. "This makes so much more sense. Why do we all have to look at each other in the UK?" wrote one amused user.

As another person explained, monorail wheels run along a single beam, so seats are typically placed centrally to balance the weight. "Metro systems use broad-gauge tracks with wheels on both sides, allowing for side seating and wider aisles," it reads.

Malaysia is a hit among tourists

Convenient public transportation is another reason to visit Malaysia. Located in Southeast Asia, the country became a booking hotspot in 2024, with bookings to Kuala Lumpur increasing by up to 50 percent compared to the previous year. Besides the capital, tourists enjoy relaxing on the beaches of the Penang Peninsula and Langkawi Island. They also enjoy visiting the tea plantations in the Cameron Highlands and the city of George Town, known for its historic colonial architecture.
